UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said more than a dozen countries are prepared to contribute assets to a proposed multinational defensive mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking in Paris, where the UK and France co-chaired talks involving 49 countries, Starmer confirmed further planning would take place at a military conference in London next week. Leaders from France, Germany, and Italy also attended the discussions on safeguarding global shipping routes.

He described reopening the strategically vital waterway as “a global necessity and a global responsibility”.
