US President Donald Trump has announced an indefinite extension of the Iran ceasefire, stating the decision was made following a request from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, allowing time for renewed diplomatic negotiations.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said: “the Government of Iran is seriously fractured” and confirmed he had been asked “to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran” until Iranian leaders present a unified proposal.
He added that he has directed the US military to “continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able”, extending the ceasefire “until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded”.
The announcement comes as Pakistan continues mediation efforts in Islamabad, while questions remain over Iran’s acceptance of the extension and the wider regional response.
