The White House released a factsheet on Sunday (17 May) outlining agreements reached between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping following talks in Beijing.

According to the White House, both leaders agreed the United States and China should build a “constructive relationship of strategic stability” based on “fairness and reciprocity”. The statement added that the agreements aim to enhance “stability and confidence for businesses and consumers around the world”.

Key developments included:

  • China approved an initial purchase of 200 American-made Boeing aircraft for Chinese airlines.
  • Beijing committed to purchasing at least $17 billion annually in US agricultural products between 2026 and 2028.
  • Both countries agreed to establish new US-China Boards of Trade and a US-China Board of Investment to to manage bilateral trade across non-sensitive goods and provide a government-to-government forum for discussing investment-related issues.
  • The leaders also reaffirmed that “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon” and confirmed a shared goal to “denuclearize North Korea”.

The factsheet also stated that China would address US concerns surrounding rare earth supply chains and restrictions involving critical minerals and related technologies.
