China and Austria have commemorated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen exchanging congratulatory messages focused on cooperation, stability and bilateral engagement.

President Xi said China-Austria relations have maintained steady development since ties were established in 1971, despite international challenges. He referenced the creation of the China-Austria friendly strategic partnership during the leaders’ 2018 meeting and highlighted the arrival of new “panda envoys” in Vienna in 2025.

President Van der Bellen said bilateral cooperation has expanded across education, scientific research, culture and the economy.
