Ghana and South Korea have signed a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports, marking a significant step in nearly five decades of bilateral relations.

The agreement was signed by Ghanaian Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun during the Africa-Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting. Both countries say the arrangement will facilitate official travel, strengthen diplomatic engagement and support deeper cooperation.

Key developments:

  • First visa waiver agreement between Ghana and South Korea since diplomatic relations were established.
  • Applies to holders of diplomatic and service passports.
  • Negotiations are expected to continue regarding possible future inclusion of ordinary passport holders.
  • Supports broader efforts to expand trade, investment and international cooperation.

The agreement reflects Ghana’s ongoing visa-free diplomacy agenda and its efforts to strengthen partnerships across Africa and Asia, including in technology, manufacturing, infrastructure and economic development.
