Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a press conference on Monday (15 Jun), commenting on a US-led Iran nuclear agreement and wider regional ceasefire negotiations. He described the initiative as “Trump’s decision”, while reiterating Israel’s independent security priorities.

He said: “Whether there is an agreement or not, Iran will not possess nuclear weapons,” and vowed, “As long as I am the prime minister of Israel, such a thing will never happen,” while confirming a continued security buffer in Lebanon.

The remarks come amid the emerging US–Iran deal, which has triggered political criticism within Israel and reported tensions between Jerusalem and US President Donald Trump.

Israeli officials maintain that Israel is not bound by any Lebanon withdrawal provisions, citing ongoing security threats linked to Hezbollah and broader regional instability.
