Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs on the sidelines of the 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara, Türkiye, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to NATO collective defence and transatlantic security.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Carney announced that Operation REASSURANCE—Canada’s largest overseas military mission, supporting NATO’s deterrence and defence efforts on the Alliance’s Eastern Flank—will be extended until 2031, with Canada’s persistent deployment increasing to up to 2,600 personnel.
