The governments of Venezuela and Chile have announced the start of a roadmap aimed at the gradual normalisation of bilateral relations, beginning with the reactivation of consular ties.

The first phase will focus on restoring consular services to support citizens from both countries living abroad, with the stated aim of progressing towards the full resumption of bilateral links.

The agreement will be based on constructive dialogue, mutual respect, reciprocity and adherence to international law, according to a joint statement issued in Caracas on 30 July 2026.

Relations between Venezuela and Chile have experienced periods of diplomatic tension in recent years, including disagreements over political and regional issues.

Both governments have now signalled an intention to rebuild engagement through institutional cooperation and dialogue, reflecting longstanding historical connections between the two South American nations.
