US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation in Washington, expanding collaboration between the two countries on civilian nuclear technology.
The agreement aims to strengthen energy and scientific cooperation while supporting international nuclear safety and non-proliferation standards.
Rubio described the agreement as another step in strengthening bilateral relations, saying: “This MOU reflects that continued cooperation” and that the goal was to create ties that “become enduring and can survive the shifts in political winds.”
Rubio added that US-Paraguay relations had grown “on a historic scale” over the previous 18 months, adding that the agreement was “one more step” towards a long-term partnership.
Foreign Minister Lezcano said the agreement would deepen cooperation in areas including security, trade and investment, adding that both countries shared values including “freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law.”
