Tanzania and Uganda have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vitol Bahrain to develop Tanga into a regional energy hub, supporting fuel trade, logistics and investment across East Africa.

The agreement was signed in Dar es Salaam in the presence of President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. President Samia said the project would promote value addition, create jobs and strengthen economic cooperation, while President Museveni described it as another milestone in bilateral energy collaboration.

Key developments:

• Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and Vitol Bahrain signed the MoU.

• The hub is expected to support petroleum storage, blending, logistics, marine services and fuel trading.

• The project complements the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), with first Ugandan crude exports targeted for later in 2026.
