Pakistan and Syria have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation following talks in Islamabad between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani.

Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, including its position on the Golan Heights. He also invited President Ahmed al-Sharaa to visit Pakistan and called for stronger collaboration across multiple sectors, including restoring direct flights.

Key developments:

  • Al-Shaibani outlined Syria’s political transition and reconstruction efforts while seeking closer institutional cooperation.
  • Both sides explored expanding trade, investment, energy, transport, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles and information technology.
  • Syria proposed creating a Pakistan-Syria Joint Business Council and hosting a joint investment forum in Damascus.

The visit is the first by a Syrian foreign minister to Pakistan since 2007, reflecting renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
