Iran and Oman have held further discussions on restoring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, with both countries outlining plans for a temporary maritime corridor following months of disruption caused by conflict.

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi said he was hopeful an agreement could soon be announced, following talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

Key developments:

  • Iran and Oman discussed a joint temporary navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Both sides agreed to cooperate on mine clearance operations to improve maritime safety.
  • Future talks will consider permanent navigation arrangements, traffic management and information-sharing.
  • The waterway previously handled around one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

The discussions come as diplomatic efforts continue to reduce tensions after months of conflict, with the security of the strategically important shipping route remaining a key regional concern.
