The United States has carried out strikes on Iranian military targets after President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating a ceasefire following a drone attack on a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes targeted missile and drone storage sites as well as coastal radar positions. Iran had not commented at the time of reporting.
Key developments:
- CENTCOM said the strikes were a response to what it described as Iranian aggression against commercial shipping.
- The Singapore-flagged cargo ship Ever Lovely was struck by a one-way attack drone, with no casualties reported.
- The International Maritime Organization (IMO) paused plans to evacuate more than 11,000 sailors following the incident.
The latest developments raise fresh concerns over maritime security, freedom of navigation and global trade through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key route for international oil, gas and commercial shipping.
