Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has warned the United Kingdom against transferring technology that would allow Ukraine to independently produce Storm Shadow cruise missiles, saying such a move would mark a further escalation in the conflict.

The comments follow the UK government’s announcement on 24 August that it would permit the release of classified information on British components of the Storm Shadow/SCALP missile to support production in Ukraine alongside France.

Speaking at a briefing in Moscow, Zakharova accused the British government of pursuing what she described as the long-term goal of strategically defeating Russia. She warned that “our response… may be all the military facilities and equipment of Britain and Ukraine and beyond”, adding that “inevitable retribution” would await those Russia considers responsible for attacks on civilians.
