Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and National Rally president Jordan Bardella have signed a memorandum of understanding outlining a proposed framework for cooperation on tackling illegal Channel crossings.
Signed at Reform UK’s 2026 National Conference in Birmingham, the agreement states that a future National Rally-led French government would accept the return of migrants intercepted after leaving French shores and entering UK territorial waters.
Key developments:
- Jordan Bardella said a National Rally government, if elected in France in 2027, would seek to strengthen border controls and reduce illegal migration routes across the Channel.
- Nigel Farage described the agreement as a new phase of cooperation between the two parties on border security and migration.
The agreement supports Reform UK’s proposed Operation Fortress, a policy the party says it would introduce if it forms the next UK government.
The plan would involve the Royal Navy and Royal Marines intercepting small boats and returning those attempting to cross the Channel illegally to France.
