UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conducted the first state visit by a UAE president to Germany from 9–11 September 2026, meeting Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The two countries announced a Strategic Dialogue to expand cooperation across security, defence, trade, energy, technology and sustainable development.
Key developments included:
- €40 billion UAE investment package in Germany, including digital infrastructure and data centre projects.
- Establishment of a German-UAE Investment Council to strengthen public and private sector cooperation.
- Signing of 29 business agreements worth more than €9.356 billion.
- Expanded cooperation on energy, artificial intelligence, defence technology and climate initiatives.
The leaders also discussed regional security issues, including Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Lebanon and Syria, reaffirming support for diplomatic solutions and international law.
