French President Emmanuel Macron and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam Tô Lâm have agreed to accelerate implementation of the France-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Tô Lâm’s official visit to France on 10–11 September 2026.
The joint statement outlined a new 2026–2028 bilateral action plan, covering cooperation in defence, trade, science and technology, space, energy and sustainable development.
Key developments include:
- Strengthened defence and security cooperation, including industrial and technological partnerships.
- Expanded collaboration on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals and space projects.
- Support for deeper links between the European Union and ASEAN, alongside commitments to multilateral cooperation.
- Continued cooperation on climate action, biodiversity, health and sustainable infrastructure.
Both countries also reaffirmed support for international law, freedom of navigation, and peaceful dispute resolution, including in the South China Sea.
