Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said the Israeli government bears primary responsibility for the ongoing US/Israel–Iran war, describing it as an “unlawful war” with widening regional and economic consequences.
“The Israeli government bears primary responsibility for this unlawful war, which has not only turned our region into a zone of conflict but has also imposed an economic burden on all of humanity,” Erdogan said, addressing his Justice and Development (AK) Party’s parliamentary group meeting in the capital Ankara.
Speaking in Ankara, Erdoğan warned the conflict risks escalating into a broader regional crisis, particularly amid increasing attacks on energy, transport, and civilian infrastructure.
“Among the foremost dangers facing our region is not only the prolongation of the war but also the risk of it evolving into a broader regional conflict, as retaliatory attacks targeting energy, transportation, and civilian infrastructure unfortunately increase this likelihood,” he added.
He added that Benjamin Netanyahu could politically benefit from the continuation of hostilities, while reiterating Türkiye’s priority to avoid direct involvement.
“It must not be forgotten that every drop of blood shed in the war will prolong (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu’s political survival,” he said.
