The Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) foreign ministers have reaffirmed their long-term support for Ukraine, calling for stronger European defence cooperation, continued sanctions on Russia, and deeper transatlantic unity.

Meeting in Kuressaare, Estonia on 29-30 April, the ministers said Ukraine’s future membership of the EU and NATO remains central to European security and stability. The joint statement also described Russia as the most significant long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security.

Key developments included:

  • Support for Ukraine’s “irreversible” path towards EU and NATO integration
  • Backing for additional sanctions targeting Russia’s energy revenues and “shadow fleet”
  • Calls for greater European defence spending and military mobility
  • Continued support for Ukraine reconstruction conferences in Poland (2026) and Estonia (2027)

The NB8 ministers also raised concerns over Russian hybrid activities, cyber threats, and Belarus’ continued alignment with Moscow.
