UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met on Sunday (7 June) to reaffirm support for Ukraine and discuss efforts towards a just and lasting peace amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The leaders welcomed recent Ukrainian battlefield gains and advances in drone technology, while condemning continued Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and reported drone incursions into NATO territory.

Key developments:

  • Leaders called for an immediate and complete ceasefire and renewed diplomatic efforts involving Ukraine, Europe and the United States.
  • Discussions focused on strengthening military assistance, defence production and long-term support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
  • The group highlighted the importance of legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine following any ceasefire.
  • Leaders confirmed that frozen Russian assets should remain immobilised until Russia ends the war and compensates Ukraine for war-related damage.

The meeting also examined preparations for the upcoming G7 Summit, Coalition of the Willing meeting and NATO Summit, with leaders emphasising that Ukraine’s security remains closely linked to wider Euro-Atlantic stability.
