Israeli forces have seized a strategic hilltop fortress, Beaufort Castle, in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military, marking their deepest incursion in over 25 years during ongoing Israel–Hezbollah hostilities.

The escalation comes amid continued conflict since March 2026 and a nominal ceasefire established on 17 April. The operation has extended beyond the Litani River, with evacuation warnings issued for southern towns including Nabatiyeh and Tyre.
The conflict has caused significant casualties and displacement, with over one million people reportedly displaced in Lebanon since the escalation began.
