Canada and Ireland have agreed a new framework to strengthen bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, security, innovation, climate action and defence following talks in Dublin between Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic ties, enhancing supply chain resilience and advancing cooperation on strategic technologies, while highlighting the growing relationship between Canada and the European Union ahead of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in July 2026.

  • Canada and Ireland will expand cooperation on trade, investment, fintech and economic security.
  • New partnerships will focus on life sciences, pharmaceutical supply chains and health security.
  • Both countries agreed to strengthen collaboration on artificial intelligence, research and innovation.
  • Annual foreign ministry consultations and increased defence cooperation, including maritime security training, will be launched.

The leaders also reaffirmed support for Ukraine, cooperation on Middle East stability, and joint efforts on climate action, energy transition and global food security.
