Thailand and Indonesia agreed to expand cooperation across defence, trade, education and regional affairs during the 2nd Leaders’ Consultation in Jakarta on Monday (3 Aug).
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto discussed strengthening political, economic, socio-cultural and international cooperation before jointly witnessing the signing of two bilateral agreements.
Key developments:
- Political and security: Greater cooperation on defence and combating transnational crime.
- Economic: Expanded collaboration on food and energy security, trade, investment, halal industries, sustainable fisheries and tourism.
- Education: New cooperation covering AI skills development and Thai and Indonesian language learning.
- Regional: Discussions included Myanmar, the Thailand–Cambodia situation, the Middle East, ASEAN and the OECD.
The leaders also endorsed a Thailand–Indonesia Strategic Partnership Roadmap (2026–2030) and a new education memorandum to guide long-term bilateral cooperation.
