Mongolia and China reaffirm strategic partnership during Wang Yi visit

Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Ulaanbaatar on Saturday (13 Jun), reaffirming the importance of China–Mongolia relations and expanding bilateral cooperation.

President Khurelsukh described ties between the two countries as a regional model of cooperation, noting that bilateral trade is expected to reach US$20 billion in 2026. He said developing friendly relations with China remains a priority of Mongolia’s foreign policy.

  • Bilateral trade between Mongolia and China is projected to reach US$20 billion this year.
  • Mongolia reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle.
  • Both sides pledged deeper cooperation in trade, investment, energy, connectivity and mineral resources.
  • Discussions also focused on green development, critical minerals and the digital economy.

Wang said China remains committed to supporting Mongolia’s development and expanding cooperation across emerging sectors.
