The 2026 Évian G7 Summit concluded with leaders adopting nine declarations spanning international security, economic cooperation, artificial intelligence, health and migration.
Speaking to reporters at the close of the summit, French President Emmanuel Macron said the previous months “had been marked by fragmentation and disagreements, which we acknowledged.” He described the gathering as “an element of its success” and said, “Objectively, this G7 was a success—a moment of unity, high-quality discussions, and cooperation among the leaders.”
Key developments included:
- Ukraine: Leaders reaffirmed support for President Volodymyr Zelensky, committing additional military assistance, stronger air defence, energy resilience measures and increased sanctions pressure on Russia.
- Middle East: The G7 called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and supported efforts to address Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programmes, while also backing a ceasefire and state authority in Lebanon.
- Global priorities: Leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation on artificial intelligence, critical minerals, macroeconomic coordination, cancer research, Ebola response, countering drug trafficking and tackling migrant smuggling.
The summit also produced dedicated leaders’ statements on promoting more balanced, durable and resilient global growth, creating a safer digital environment for minors, securing critical mineral supply chains, addressing geopolitical issues, and strengthening international cooperation against migrant smuggling.
