Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed heads of delegation attending the Russia-ASEAN Summit at a state reception in Kazan on Wednesday (17 June), marking the 35th anniversary of relations between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Opening his remarks, President Putin said the summit reflected a shared commitment to strengthening political, economic, security, trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Russia and ASEAN. He expressed confidence that the Kazan Declaration and Joint Plan of Action would help advance those objectives.
Addressing international affairs, Putin said Russia and ASEAN were working together to deepen cooperation while supporting “a just and equitable world order” based on “the principles of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.”
He added that the countries respected each other’s national identities and diverse development paths, stating that “Every one of our nations follows its own development path and does not seek to impose its views on others – and that, without a doubt, is our collective strength.”
Overall, Putin’s address focused on commemorating 35 years of Russia-ASEAN relations while emphasising long-term strategic cooperation, economic and security ties, cultural exchanges, and support for a multipolar international order.
