President Donald Trump has said the United States will continue military operations against Iran until Tehran returns to negotiations, arguing that “the only way you can negotiate with these people is through strength” and that “the only strength is military strength.”
Speaking to Fox News, Trump claimed an agreement had been close before Iran “broke it at the last moment” and said recent US Central Command (CENTCOM) operations would continue “until I say it’s enough.” He added that Iran’s military had been “degraded to a very low level”, although it “still has some fight left.”
Trump also signalled that US military action could expand beyond current operations, saying “I’ll save the energy targets for last” before warning that “we’re going to hit them very hard tonight” and continue strikes in the coming days.
He added that “next week comes the power plants” and “next week comes the bridges”, unless Iran “gets to the table and negotiate.” He reiterated that sustained military pressure would remain central to Washington’s approach.
Recent developments have seen the conflict between the United States and Iran escalate through a series of military exchanges. The US has carried out further strikes on Iranian military infrastructure, including missile, drone and coastal defence capabilities, while reimposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports near the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks against US-linked targets and regional facilities, including strikes reported in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened to disrupt energy routes if pressure from Washington continues.
The ongoing confrontation has raised concerns over regional stability, maritime security and global energy supplies as both sides continue to signal further action.
