Speaking alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at an event organized by the newspaper Kathimerini on the theme “Challenges for Europe – The Way Ahead”, French President Emmanuel Macron said the current geopolitical climate could become “the European moment”.
Macron said the European Union was increasingly viewed as “reliable” and “predictable” amid growing global disorder and uncertainty surrounding major international alliances and power dynamics.
The French president argued that the EU should become “an actual power” capable of using its economic and political influence more effectively in global affairs. He also called for stronger protection of European industry, greater trade reciprocity and a more assertive European economic strategy.
Macron added that Europe’s commitment to international law and long-term partnerships continued to strengthen its credibility during ongoing debates over European strategic autonomy, defence and trade policy.
