China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing is prepared to help create conditions for renewed peace talks as tensions continue across the Middle East.
Speaking in Beijing during talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Wang said a return to hostilities would further threaten regional and global stability, stressing the importance of continued diplomacy and negotiations.
Wang Yi called for a “comprehensive ceasefire,” saying his country is deeply distressed by the war.
“The international community shares a common concern for restoring normal and safe passage through the Strait, and China hopes the relevant parties will respond as quickly as possible to the strong calls from the international community,” China’s official news agency Xinhua quoted him as saying.
Araghchi said Iran would continue pursuing a peaceful and comprehensive solution while safeguarding its sovereignty and national interests.
