Speaking during a discussion hosted by The Geopolitics and Security Studies Center, President of Finland Alexander Stubb addressed the changing global order, NATO, transatlantic security, and Europe’s role in an increasingly fragmented international environment.
The discussion, titled “Rebalancing the New World Order: Cooperation in the Age of Fragmentation”, focused on geopolitical competition, emerging powers, and the challenges facing democratic states in a multipolar world.
Addressing shifts in US foreign policy and global power projection, Stubb said “American foreign policy has changed,” adding that countries increasingly act without international consensus.
Referring to Greenland, he said “you push back,” while describing actions involving Iran as “outside the framework of international law.” He also stated that “it is in our interest that America succeeds in Iran,” calling modern diplomacy “always a balancing act.”
The remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran, renewed debate over Arctic and Greenland security, and continued discussions within NATO over Europe’s long-term defence responsibilities and strategic autonomy.
