Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb, has called for renewed support for multilateral cooperation, arguing that today’s geopolitical challenges require stronger international institutions and reforms to global governance.
Speaking to POLITICO’s The Conversation with Dasha Burns, Stubb said the world is increasingly driven by “transaction and deals”, while local conflicts are evolving into regional crises with global consequences for energy prices, food security and inflation.
He argued that weakening reliance on institutions such as the United Nations has contributed to a fragmented international system, warning that “we live in a world of disorder” comparable to periods following the First World War, Second World War and the Cold War.
Referring to his book, The Triangle of Power: Rebalancing the New World Order, Stubb advocated reforming the United Nations, strengthening multilateralism, and giving the Global South a greater role in international decision-making to help maintain long-term global stability.
