Botswana and South Africa have signed four new cooperation agreements following the sixth Bi-National Commission (BNC), aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in water management, aviation safety, energy and correctional services.

The agreements were concluded during South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s official visit to Botswana, where Botswana President Duma Boko described the BNC as a key platform for practical and results-oriented cooperation between the neighbouring states.

Key developments include:

  • Joint management of water quality and aquatic invasive species in the Upper Limpopo River Basin
  • Coordination of aeronautical search-and-rescue operations across shared airspace
  • Expanded cooperation on regional energy security and power stability
  • Collaboration between correctional services on training, rehabilitation and information-sharing

Both leaders said implementation work would begin immediately through technical teams from both governments.
