Renewed hostilities in the Gulf have placed further strain on an already fragile ceasefire, after Iranian attacks on Kuwait International Airport caused damage, left one person dead and injured more than 60 others, according to Kuwaiti authorities.
Kuwaiti officials said airport operations were temporarily suspended before flights gradually resumed following additional safety measures.
In neighbouring Bahrain, authorities activated emergency warning sirens and advised residents to seek shelter amid heightened regional security concerns.
The developments came as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported conducting defensive strikes against missile launch sites and maritime assets in southern Iran and near the Strait of Hormuz.
Key developments:
- Kuwaiti authorities reported damage to airport facilities and diplomatic missions following Iranian missile and drone attacks.
- CENTCOM said Iranian missile attacks failed to hit US military facilities in the region.
- Negotiations between US President Donald Trump’s administration and Iran remain unresolved despite earlier indications of progress.
Diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting agreement and restore stability in the Gulf continue, with both sides maintaining differing conditions for any future settlement.
