The United States and 12 Latin American countries have issued a joint statement under the Shield of the Americas framework condemning what they describe as attempts to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Rodrigo Paz in Bolivia.

The statement, released via the US Department of State, says member states support Bolivia’s government amid protests they allege are disrupting essential supplies through “fake road blockades” and external funding linked to organised crime.

  • 13 nations, including the US, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador, back Bolivia’s elected government
  • Protest actions accused of obstructing food, medicine and essential supply chains
  • Allegations raised of financing from drug trafficking and transnational criminal networks

The alliance urged dialogue for legitimate grievances while warning against efforts to “regain power” through unrest. Bolivia’s government has welcomed the statement.
