Singapore and Tanzania have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation during the State Visit of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to Tanzania from 8–10 June 2026.

Meeting with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the two leaders highlighted the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to expand collaboration in the blue and green economies, digital economy, tourism, port development, food security, education, healthcare, and disease prevention.

Key developments included:

  • Signing of agreements on bilateral consultations, carbon credits, trade facilitation, and skills development.
  • Conclusion of an Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement.
  • Support for stronger multilateral cooperation.
  • Welcome for the East African Community’s intention to pursue a Free Trade Agreement with Singapore.

President Tharman also attended the Tanzania-Singapore Business and Investment Forum and is scheduled to visit Zanzibar to discuss further opportunities in trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
