Iran has announced the renewed closure of the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Israel of violating a ceasefire in southern Lebanon and alleging the United States failed to uphold commitments under a recent US-Iran agreement.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy warned vessels not to approach the strategic waterway. However, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said commercial shipping continued to transit the strait safely.

Key developments:

  • Iran said Israel’s operations in southern Lebanon breached the US-Iran agreement.
  • CENTCOM reported 55 merchant ships had transited the strait despite Tehran’s announcement.
  • The Strait of Hormuz carries around 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.

US Vice-President JD Vance is expected to travel to Switzerland for talks, while Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran would seek implementation of the agreement.
