Kazakhstan and Georgia have signed a strategic partnership following talks between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday (29 Jun), strengthening cooperation across political, economic, transport and humanitarian sectors.

President Tokayev said the agreement would elevate bilateral relations, highlighting trade and investment as key priorities. He also reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s plans to increase oil shipments via the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline and proposed a roadmap covering energy, transport, digitalisation, agriculture and tourism.

Key developments:

  • Kazakhstan has invested more than US$500 million in Georgia.
  • Both countries pledged to expand the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) through infrastructure, logistics and digitalisation.
  • Three memorandums were signed covering culture, artificial intelligence and digital development, and tourism.
  • Prime Minister Kobakhidze received Kazakhstan’s Order of Dostyk (Friendship), First Degree, recognising his contribution to bilateral relations.
