Australia and Fiji have signed the historic Vuvale Union and Ocean of Peace Alliance, marking a major expansion of bilateral cooperation on security, economic integration and regional resilience.

Signed in Suva by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, the agreements strengthen collaboration while supporting the Blue Pacific Ocean of Peace Declaration.

Key developments:

  • Vuvale Union expands cooperation across security, trade, education and people-to-people ties.
  • Ocean of Peace Alliance establishes a mutual defence commitment to assist one another during major crises.
  • Australia will launch the Pacific Australia Skills program in Fiji and open the Vuvale Skills Hub to support education and workforce development.
