Malaysia and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation following talks between Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul during the Thai leader’s official visit to Malaysia on 9–10 July 2026.
The joint statement outlined plans to strengthen cooperation on border development, trade, transport, security, agriculture and regional engagement, while reaffirming support for ASEAN unity and long-term economic growth.
Key developments:
- Bilateral trade target of US$30 billion by 2027 reaffirmed.
- New transport and border connectivity projects, including rail, road, port and ferry links, were advanced.
- A new Agricultural Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding was signed to support food security and sustainable development.
- Both countries pledged closer cooperation on border security, defence, environmental protection and tackling transnational crime.
Malaysia will visit Thailand in 2027 to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
