Germany and Algeria have adopted a Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda to expand cooperation across trade, energy, security, innovation and sustainable development following talks in Berlin.
The declaration was concluded during a meeting between German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Thursday (16 July), reaffirming both countries’ commitment to multilateral cooperation, international law and stronger bilateral relations.

- Trade and energy: Support for increased investment, the Southern Hydrogen Corridor Project, renewable energy and continued gas cooperation.
- Security: Expanded dialogue on migration, defence, cyber security, counter-terrorism and readmission cooperation.
- Innovation: Plans to strengthen research, technology, industry, education and cultural exchanges.
- Business: A bilateral economic forum will take place on 17 July 2026, with discussions on relaunching a joint economic commission and establishing a bilateral business council.
