Twenty-nine countries have signed an agreement in Shanghai establishing the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), a new independent intergovernmental organisation focused on artificial intelligence governance and international cooperation.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, signed the agreement on behalf of China. Representatives from countries including Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia and Indonesia became WAICO’s founding members, while UN Secretary-General António Guterres attended the signing ceremony.
