Thailand and Russia have reaffirmed plans to strengthen bilateral cooperation following talks in Moscow between Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Discussions covered political and security cooperation, trade, investment, agriculture, tourism and culture, with Thailand also seeking progress towards Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Key developments:

  • Thailand called for reduced trade barriers and support for EAEU free trade negotiations.
  • Both sides exchanged views on ASEAN-Russia cooperation, Myanmar and the Thailand-Cambodia situation.
  • Officials signed the 6th Plan of Consultations (2026–2030), providing a framework for future diplomatic cooperation.

The meeting comes ahead of the 130th anniversary of Thailand-Russia diplomatic relations in 2027, highlighting continued engagement despite a changing regional and global geopolitical landscape.
