Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to deepen defence and political cooperation under the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence following a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee in İstanbul on Monday (31 Aug).
The meeting brought together the three countries’ foreign ministers, defence ministers and chiefs of defence to discuss regional security, deterrence and long-term cooperation.
Key developments:
- A permanent Secretariat will be established in Saudi Arabia.
- The Secretariat will initially be led by a Secretary General from Pakistan for a three-year term.
- The countries agreed to strengthen defence industry cooperation, joint technology development and military production.
- Officials reaffirmed support for de-escalation, crisis resolution and regional stability through institutional cooperation.
The joint statement said the measures are intended to strengthen collective defence, enhance regional security cooperation and contribute to a just, inclusive and lasting peace.
