Egypt has signalled its readiness to support Saudi Arabia following renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi territory and infrastructure linked to the ongoing Yemen conflict. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for an urgent parliamentary session as Egypt’s National Defence Council met to discuss the situation on Sunday (18 Oct).

“Egypt will provide Saudi Arabia with all necessary and possible forms of support to defend its security and stability, protect its resources, territorial integrity and Islamic holy sites,” the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

Key developments:

  • President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi requested parliamentary authorisation for potential military support.
  • Egypt said it would provide Saudi Arabia with the support needed to protect its security, territorial integrity and resources.
  • The move follows recent Houthi attacks targeting Riyadh’s international airport and Saudi Aramco facilities.
  • Egypt previously joined the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen in 2015, although its combat role was limited.

The announcement reflects growing coordination between Cairo and Riyadh as the conflict in Yemen increasingly affects wider Middle East security and international trade routes.
