Economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan is accelerating, with both countries aiming to raise bilateral trade to $3 billion in coming years.

The push was outlined at the Kazakhstan–Afghanistan Business Forum in Kabul, opened by Serik Zhumangarin, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy, and Haji Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce.

  • Bilateral trade reached $541.8 million in 2025, with over 50 Kazakh companies participating in the forum across agriculture, engineering, IT and chemicals
  • 25 MoUs signed covering spices, produce, grains, edible oils, banking and essential commodities
  • Planned $45 million deal for 4,500 AI-powered diagnostic devices alongside expanded exports of grain, oilseeds and pharmaceuticals

Kazakhstan signalled Afghanistan as a strategic logistics partner linking Central and South Asia, while both sides highlighted industrial cooperation, including food processing and textiles, alongside rising sunflower oil exports.
