Chinese President Xi Jinping said China supports Bangladesh’s new government and is ready to deepen Belt and Road cooperation following talks with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Beijing.

The leaders announced plans to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future, while identifying cooperation in green development, the digital economy, information technology and artificial intelligence.

Key developments:

  • China and Bangladesh announced a new framework for closer bilateral cooperation.
  • 13 memorandums of understanding were signed covering trade, investment and wider cooperation.
  • The countries agreed to strengthen technical cooperation on the Teesta River management project.
  • Bangladesh confirmed it will open its first investment office in China to support Chinese investors.

Rahman’s three-day visit, his first since taking office in February 2026, also included meetings with Chinese businesses as Bangladesh sought to expand trade, investment and infrastructure cooperation.
