India and Seychelles have agreed to expand cooperation across health, education, digital transformation, renewable energy, maritime security and defence following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Dr Patrick Herminie in Victoria, Mahé, on Sunday (28 Jun).
The leaders reviewed bilateral relations, regional security in the Indian Ocean and progress under India’s Special Economic Package, reaffirming support for Seychelles’ development priorities.
Key developments:
- Eight agreements were exchanged, covering capacity building, UPI, health, agriculture, shipping, space, extradition and a Line of Credit worth INR 1,250 crore.
- A commemorative logo was unveiled to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.
- Seychelles announced it will join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
- Prime Minister Modi also became the first Indian Prime Minister to address an Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of Seychelles.
