US President Donald Trump said he considers the ceasefire between the United States and Iran to be over after Washington launched strikes against Iranian targets in response to attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Türkiye, Trump said the US had responded “very powerfully” to the latest attacks and argued Iran had violated the understanding reached last month.

Asked whether the ceasefire and memorandum of understanding were finished, he replied: “As far as I’m concerned, it’s over.”

Trump also said he no longer wanted to negotiate with Tehran, describing further talks as “a waste of time”.

His remarks came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had struck more than 80 Iranian targets, while Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused Washington of breaching the memorandum agreed last month.
