US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japan’s Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu, and Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Cho Hyun reaffirmed their countries’ trilateral partnership during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday (21 Sep).
The ministers reiterated support for a free and open Indo-Pacific, called for the complete denuclearisation of North Korea, and said the path to dialogue with Pyongyang remains open.
Key developments:
- Reaffirmed cooperation on regional security, extended deterrence and peace across the Taiwan Strait.
- Expanded collaboration on supply chain resilience, semiconductors, AI, quantum technology and energy security, including small modular reactors.
- Launched new initiatives on economic security, disaster relief, organised crime and maritime law enforcement cooperation.
The three governments also committed to maintaining regular high-level consultations and strengthening regional and global engagement.
